How to make Rawtella – the yummiest healthy spread ever!

I have always had a weakness for nutella – but then again who doesn’t. I use it in recipes all the time or just attack the tub with a spoon, I love the stuff. That’s why I just had to find a healthy alternate, and Rawtella was born! This recipe tastes just as good if not BETTER (probably as I know how nutritious it is) than Nutella. It’s raw vegan, wheat free, gluten free, sugar free – so pretty much guilt free ;-) and I Love it spread on my protein pancakes, muffins or just on a good old banana.

Here is a bit of info on why hazelnuts are just so darn good for you

  • Hazelnuts contain phytopchemicals, which belong to a group called the flavonoids. Flavonoids support brain health, improve circulation and reduce symptoms associated with allergies. Consuming a handful of hazelnuts for a snack may provide your body with all these healthy benefits.
  • Hazelnuts contain fats that can protect heart health. Specifically, they are high in healthy polyunsaturated and mononunsaturated fats and low in unhealthier unsaturated fats. Hazelnuts are a good source of oleic acid. Oleic acid can help to lower levels of bad cholesterol, LDL, and can raise levels of good cholesterol, HDL, in the body.
  • Hazelnuts have a high amount of vitamin E in addition to B vitamins, including folate. Vitamin E is important in maintaining healthy skin, hair and nails. The B vitamins are important in proper cell and energy metabolism. Hazelnuts are also a rich source of potassium, calcium and magnesium. The minerals provide many health benefits, including regulating a healthy blood pressure. Unlike unhealthy snacks such as chips and refined products, hazelnuts can provide the body with a rich supply of nutrients for good health

So here’s the good bit, my rawtella is just 3cups of ground roasted hazelnuts, 2tbsp of cacao and 2tbsp of agave (you could also use honey or rice syrup etc) All you need to do is whack it all in your blender and every minute or so stop wipe down the sides and continue till you have a beautiful smelling, rich smooth butter – ta dah!
